Bernhard Seiboth studierte Mikrobiologie an der Universität Wien. Der Fokus seiner wissenschaftlichen Karriere liegt auf der Erforschung filamentöser Pilze als Zellfabriken für die Produktion von Proteinen und Metaboliten. Er habilitierte 2011 auf der TU Wien und seine Kernkompetenz in der Lehre liegt auf der Biotechnologie. Er publizierte mehr als 80 wissenschaftliche Beiträge und ist Editorial Board Mitglied von Fungal Genetics and Biology, Frontiers in Microbiology und Biotechnology Letters. Seit 2010 arbeitete er auch für das K2 Kompetenzzentrum für Exzellente Technologien, das Austrian Center of Industrial Biotechnology. Seine Gruppe konzentriert sich aktuell auf das Zelldesign und Engineering des industriellen Protein und Enzymproduzenten Trichoderma reesei mit systembiotechnologishcne Methoden. Enzyme wie Zellulasen und Xylanasen, die von diesen Pilz produziert werden, werden heutzutage in Bioraffinerien zur Umwandlung von erneuerbarer Pflanzenbiomasse zu High Value Produkten eingesetzt.

Bernhard Seiboth studied microbiology at the University of Vienna. The focus of his scientific career is on filamentous fungi as cell factories for the production of proteins and metabolites. He habilitated in 2011 and his core competence in teaching is on different aspects of biotechnology. He published more than 80 scientific articles, is member of the Editorial Board of Fungal Genetics and Biology, Frontiers in Microbiology und Biotechnology Letters. His group also participates in the Austrian Center of Biotechnolog, a K2 Competence Center for Excellent Technology (COMET). Today, the major route of research is concentrated on fungal cell-design and engineering of the industrial enzyme producer Trichoderma reesei. This fungus is a model organism for (hemi)cellulase regulation and production and its enzymes are applied in different biorefinery industries to produce biochemicals from renewable plant biomass.
