Annett Bartsch received the Diploma in Geography from Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena, Jena, Germany, in 2000 and the Ph.D. degree in geography from the University of Reading, Reading, U.K., in 2004.

Since 2003, she has been with the Institute of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Vienna University of Technology, Vienna, Austria. She focuses on the application of satellite data at high latitudes related to land surface hydrology and for interdisciplinary studies. She received her venia docendi (habilitation/private docent) for applied remotre sensing in 2011. Her research interests include active microwave remote sensing techniques for analyses of wetlands, frozen ground, and snow.
