Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • determine which types of analyses are required for Design-by-Analysis of pressure equipment.
  • perform Design-by-Analysis calculations including the necessary Finite Element calculations.
  • evaluate the results of the analyses according to appropriate standards.

  • Shake down analysis
  • Stability (buckling) analysis

Teaching methods

Each lecture starts with a presentation, where the required basics for the exercises are developed. Afterwards, an example is carried out within the group. A similar example has to be analysed as homework. For the finite element calculations the equipment of the institute is available, although there are restrictions due to the Corona pandemic. The use of own PCs is possible in any case.

Attendance:

In principle, there are written documents for all parts of the LVA, which means that absence on individual dates is not a problem. Attendance at the lectures is important, however, since discussion and exercises are an essential part of the course.

As in the previous year, the course will take place in the first half of the summer semester. There are 7 dates required, one lecture and one practice session each, aiming for one date/week.

Location: Getreidemarkt 9, BD, beginning in the lecture hall afterwards 6th floor CAD hall, if possible online transmission and/or recording.

Summer semester 2022 (hybrid format):

It is planned to hold the course in the lecture hall and in the CAD hall, with the lectures being broadcast and recorded (if possible). In any case, it is possible to perform the exercises on own equipment (PC). Corresponding calculation and CAD software must then be installed on the own devices, whereby free licenses are available.

Whether it is possible to work exclusively on the devices in the CAD room is not yet known. If it is not possible to install the software on your own equipment, please contact the LVA manager - they will try to find a suitable solution.

Organization, information exchange will be done via the eLearning system (TUWEL).

Due to the pandemic, the format of the lectures may vary.

Examination modalities

For taking the exam, 6 exercises have to be performed and the results shown to the instructors. The grading is based on the oral exam.

During the Corona Pandemic, the showing of the homework examples as well as the oral exam will be done at least partially in video conferences.
