Aim of course

Elaboration of the basics for the systematic mathematical modeling of simple mechanical and thermal systems based on first-principles. 

Subject of course

Mechanical systems:
kinematics of mass points, Newton's laws, system of forces, center of gravity, balance of momentum, translatory kinetic energy and potential energy, dissipative forces, spring-mass-damper systems, system with changing mass, balance of moment of momentum, Euler-Lagrange equations

Heat transfer:
heat conduction, boundary conditions, forced heat convection, free heat convection, heat radation, heat sources, stationary heat transfer, plane wall, cylindrical wall, fins, heat exchanger, transient heat transfer, numerical solution of heat transfer problems, finite difference method, lumped-parameter formulation in form of an equivalent RC circuit
