## Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

• analyze 2D-mechanisms  and teir properties
• use correctly terms as "applied forces", "constrain forces" and mass forces"
• calculate and minimize the degree of non-uniformity in drive systems
• analyze and understand vibrations of linear multi-degree of freedom systems
• solve complex problems in modelling of torsional vibration systems
• answer basic questions related to bending vibrations of rotating machines
• foresee the effects of mechanical vibrations on humans

## Subject of course

Introductory Problems: Belt drives, impact response of a SDOF-system, etc., flywheel design - Problems on machine foundations: Design parameters of a SDOF-foundation system, etc. - Problems on torsional vibration systems: assembly of system matrices, transformation to reference speed, planetary gearing system, forced torsional vibrations, start up simulation of drive trains, etc. Details on the problems is to be found in TUWEL.

## Teaching methods

Three different lecture formats are used:

• Lecture exercises: The LVA leaders present selected examples.There will be enough time for Q&A and discussions about the solution and the results.
• Group exercises (compulsory attendance): The students try to solve examples in small groups. LVA leaders and tutors help and support. The results are not collected and therefore not rated!

• Colloquia (compulsory attendance): In two written tests (middle and end semester), examples have to be solved, open book tests, but no teamwork.
