After successful completion of the course, students are able to...
... to independently implement simple "GIS projects" using the analytical skills taught - in the meaning of "user knowledge" (in contrast to GIS expert knowledge).... to apply profound theoretical basics and practical skills on the basis of simple spatial examples.... to deal with methodical-technical questions and to apply this knowledge by using a widely-used commercial GIS product.
The students will learn the basic functions and technical possibilities of geo-information software (GIS) by means of planning based and practice-oriented examples. The contents range from simple data visualisation to modelling of spatially based analyis from multi-criteria suitability tests.
The course is devided in different formats. The implementation process will be iterative.
ArcGIS Pro which is widespread in practice, provides necessary analysis and modelling functions. ArcGis Pro is installed on the PCs in the EDV-Labor. All students have the possibility to get an annual license (cost 3 Euro) for using the software on their own Notebooks via TU.it: http://www.sss.tuwien.ac.at/sss/agi/
Detailed information will be presented during the kick-off session.
This course has an immanent mode of examination.
The exercution of the task is permitted in groups of two. The students get 6 exercises, which need to be solved independently. The calculation results and maps must be uploaded in TUWEL. This exercises contribute 30 % to the final grade.Aditionally, induvidual performance evidence: Two interim tests of solving tasks. The interims tests contribute 35% to the final grade and need to be passend. For proven excuses and those who haven´t scored enough points on one of the two test, there is a replacement test.
Attendance at all feedback discussions. (One-off absence is tolerated)
Detailed assessment criteria will be presented duing the kick-off session and will then be available via TISS and TUWEL.
