The goal is the comprehension of design principles and the implementation of possible approaches in sustainable planning of building envelopes. Depending on the own design-project, based on the workshop, aims of sustainable planning and details of facades will be developed. The students will demonstrate in their work that they understood interrelationships between structure, construction, material, form and impact on exterior and interior space, demands and implementation . . . of their workshop-project.
Historically, the shell of a building served as a means for survival and protection and offered improved quality of life. The shell, being an active membrane between inside and outside not only facilitates regulated supply of air and light but also operates as a visual filter, embedded in a socio cultural context. With the help of general design principles and examples, discussions will focus on how sustainable approaches in building envelopes can be implemented.
