After successful completion of the course, students are able to classify American buildings due to stylistic and chronological parameters as well as to retrace developments within American architecture.

The structure of this course consists of chapters of architecture and urban planning. After a 'relaunch' the lecture's concept will be based on chronolgy from the upcoming summer semester 2015. The discussion of typical American building styles will be supplemented by emphasized topic-related architects.

In this lecture course American buildings erected during the past 400 years will be introduced and analyzed, starting with colonial architecture of the 17th century. The emphasis will be put on the development of typical American building types and urban planning such as skyscrapers or university-campus-planning. Supplementary discussions of topic-related architects will add to the contents of the lecture course.

Interaction with the students is highly desired and is supported by menti surveys during the chats and by the accompanying Instagram account @architektur_nordamerika_2019.

For reasons of fairness and in order to offer all participants of the summer term  2021 the same conditions and examination mode, the examinations will continue to be held orally via Zoom, in groups of 4 students each.

I urgently appeal to all students to only register for the exam if they seriously intend to take it! Blocking exam places or letting them lapse is not only disrespectful to the teachers, but also unfair to the colleagues who are hindered in their study progress! Therefore, in case of unexcused absence, an exam suspension will come into effect.
