After successful completion of the course, students are able to use the basic concepts of railway construction and maintenance. Furthermore, the components of the superstructure, with a special focus on local traffic in Vienna (subway and tram) and the main railway in Austria, their requirements and the measures for their maintenance are to be described.

Lecture with practical examples, discussion with students, lectures by external speakers, illustration of the topic with the help of an excursion (planned between 31 May and 2 June to voestalpine Rail Technology GmbH).

The performance test is based on a written examination.

For the lecture no previous experience is required. The completion of the course railways is recommended.
