2019S, VU, 2.0h, 2.5EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 2.5
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise

Aim of course

After successful completion of this course you can

  • list different types of groundwater models, and the required information beforehand, possibilities and limits of their application.
  • categorize the investigation methods for determining the hydraulic properties of subsurface material.
  • apply different methods for determining the hydraulic conductivity of the subsurface.
  • determine the capacity of single and multiple well facilities.
  • assess the thermal usability of groundwater for a practical application.
  • estimate the impact of model parameters on the groundwater flow through flood protection dams.

Subject of course

Introduction into the types of subsurface tests as basis for modelling

Applications and limits of groundwater models

Investigation methods for determining the hydraulic properties of subsurface materials

Thermal use of groundwater

Practical exercises:

  • Evaluating a steady-state pumping test,

  • Determining the hydraulic conductivity from infiltration tests and sieve analyses,

  • Assessing the capacity of a single well and a multiple well facility (Water control at building pits),

  • Estimating the impact of thermal use of groundwater,

  • Investigating the groundwater flow near flood protection dams with the help of a 2-D groundwater model.
