Aim of course

Security plays a fundamental role in the design of IT systems, since security vulnerabilities may lead to catastrophic economical and societal consequences.

In this lecture, the students will study the foundations of IT security. In particular, they will learn how to discover security problems as well as how to develop and deploy security solutions, in order to effectively design secure IT systems.

Subject of course

  • Basics of system security (security principles, authentication and access control, control-flow hijacking) 
  • Basics of web security (browser security, client-side security, server-side security)
  • Basics of cryptography (symmetric cryptography, asymmetric cryptography)
  • Basics of network security (denial of service, TLS, network anonymity)
