EMERGE aims to enhance forest fire assessment in Austrian forests, expanding the early warning system to include fire spread potential and intensity by: i) conducting empirical surveys of biomass and forest structure, ii) estimating biomass, fire ladders, and gaps with remote sensing (Sentinel-2, LiDAR), iii) performing fire experiments at TÜPL Allentsteig, and iv) adapting existing models to develop a forest fire simulator tailored to Austrian conditions.
