Validation and Application of Global Ionospheric Maps

In the frame of the cooperation the combined ionosphere maps, developed at the Vienna University of Technology within the COMBION project, will be investigated and validated at UPC through real time applications and precise point positioning. In this way and by sharing their competency in ionosphere modelling, the UPC team will contribute to the successful accomplishment of the COMBION project. On the other hand, the combination performed at IGG has a high potential to increase the accuracy of the global ionosphere modelling and can thus be implemented in the research on precise positioning with GNSS carried out at both UPC and IGG. Furthermore, later on the global ionosphere models developed within COMBION will be routinely generated, so they can contribute as an independent Analysis Centre solution within the Ionosphere Working Group of the IGS and increase the reliability of the official combined IGS solution.
