Trichoderma reesei Xylanase Regulator 1- Signal Receipt and Modulation

01.02.2009 - 31.01.2011
Forschungsförderungsprojekt
Filamentous ascomycetes of the genus Trichoderma mainly act as saprophytes thereby degrading a wide range of bio-polymeric substrates, such as cellulose and hemicellulose, which are predominant components of plant material. Complete degradation of these biopolymers requires a large number of extracellular enzymes working in synergistic action to allow hydrolysis to smaller oligosaccharides and finally to the respective monomers. A large number of hydrolytic enzymes secreted by Trichoderma have received broad industrial interest leading to widespread applications, such as in paper, textile and food industry. Precious investigations showed that in T. reesei the transcription factor Xyr1, Xylanase regulator 1, is responsible for the transcriptional regulation of many hydrolytic encoding genes. The aim of this study is to investigate Xyr1 because hardly anything is known about its regulation or modification. These results would help to improve existing and to develop new industrial processes.
