The sustainability of Austrian housing assistance

01.04.2003 - 31.03.2005
Assigned research project
The project investigates the distribution of incomes and the affordability of housing over the period 1989-2001 and different social strata. From biannual Austrian census data the statistical analysis extracted the development of housing tenures and household characteristics including skill-dependent life-cycle income profiles. By means of that unique data the project asked if Austrian housing assistance secured a fair chance of housing access over subsequent age cohorts. One main outcome is that over the period the Austrian population faced increasing income uncertainty which will likely challenge the housing policy in the near future.
