Forschungsförderungsprojekt
Using an interdisciplinary approach, the project aims to significanty contribute to the better understanding and effective use of narrative strategies in computer games. Using an intermedial comparison with the medium of film, we aim to figure out how the narrative in computer games is be realized and what narrative means are used to involve the recipients emotionally and cognitively. The investigation is based on the assumption that the nature and form of narrative material impacts on the emotional and cognitive involvement of the recipients and that involvement is a prerequisite for admission and internalization of content. The basic theory of this project is that the involvement in a story is grounds for learning in the the sense of learning from societal images, values, practices and behavioral problem-solving strategies, as well as "learning-about-yourself" by enabling experiences that last through the act of playing.
