Forschungsförderungsprojekt
The proposed project focusses on the calculation of electron capture cross sections relevant for diagnostics in nuclear fusion research. We have a series of atomic-orbital close-coupling calculations (AOCC) in mind. The applicant obtained proficiency in this method mainly by the calculation and analysis of a benchmarking collisional system (Be4+ + H → Be3+(nl) + H +). Here the convergence of the AOCC calculation was demonstrated and an extensive analysis of total and state-selective cross sections was made. This analysis outlines the steps to be taken when looking for an optimized description of a collisional system focussing on convergence and numerical stability. We plan to calculate electron capture cross sections for high-q plasma impurities such as Arq+ or Wq+. This is a challenging project because the very large number of basis states that will be needed for converging descriptions of these collisional systems.
