01.09.2008 - 30.07.2010
Forschungsförderungsprojekt
Tactile templates are an important part in teaching blind and visually impaired high school students. These templates are either manufactured in laborious manual work, or built only as two-dimensional templates (plans, etc.). In this project, a simple but elegant solution for E-Learning will be developed that offers spoken comments or other content during multi-modal haptic exploration of a two-or three-dimensional model. The system consists of an base for the exploratory model or plan, a computer and several webcams. The system can recognize be a marker on the fingers of the student to identify hotspots that hold information. Interfaces for both students and teachers will be designed, so that educational content can be composed comfortably. As methodical approach for the development of the system, participatory design will be conducted to include the interests and ideas of pupils, teachers and stakeholders in multiple iterative design and implementation steps. The pupils will be actively involved in the development process and take part in the scientific methodology used to develop the system.
