Real time travel information und matching for mobility customers in motorized individual transport on the basis of navigational systems to support carpooling

The study aims at investigating and portraying the main aspects of a system, which organises travel information and arranges lifts for individual vehicles. It is meant to support the organisation of lifts on a professional level. The system makes use of the fact that navigational systems for motorcars, which are supported by satellites, will be widespread within a few years. The information received from the navigational system is used to arrange lifts in real time. Details such as the booking, insurance, accounts etc. are integrated into the system, so that an enormously efficient organisation of lifts is possible. The system fosters mobility, above all in rural areas, without further polluting the environment or raising costs for the authorities. The organisation and offering of lifts is possible without practically any effort for the car driver, so that a large offer of lifts can be expected. It¿s the aim of the study to describe in detail the problems of the customers and deduce from the findings the demands for the development of the product. The following aspects will be dealt with in detail: - Clarifying the technical feasibility ¿ contacts with the industry - Finding out which aspects of success and failure must be taken into account - Experience made so far with Car Pooling services - Analysis of the general set-up, i.e. finding out what is helpful and what is hampering - Description of a specific and consistent product or service respectively - Estimation of the future demand - Offering solutions to problems such as data protection, criminality, insurance, accounts, usability etc. - Cost-benefit analysis - Analysis of international standards and interfaces, discovering possible gaps - Working out a strategy for the realisation of the system The findings will be discussed with different experts on a wider basis. Furthermore the interdependence and stability of the system will be explored.
