Optimization of the operating performance of gas engines considering specific applications like Microgrid-installations or mobile power units
01.01.2006 - 31.12.2008
Auftragsforschungsprojekt
Due to lower emissions natural Gas engines are considered to replace diesel engines in the field of mobile power units or emergency power supplies. Therefore, a robust and stable operating performance of gas engines has to be guaranteed. Under such conditions it is sufficient to control the engine speed to be able to provide the desired mains frequency. The stabilisation upon high switching on consumer equipment is much more challenging for gas engines than for diesel engines. Using model based controller design like H-∞ or MPC with the actuating variables throttle valve, recirculation valve and gas mass flow step load switches up to 50% of the engines nominal load should be reached. Besides the improvement of the operating performance of the single machine the combination of more machines into a Microgrid-installation is studied and optimized and efficient combination strategies are developed.
