Near real-time quantification of E. coli
01.02.2009 - 31.12.2010
Assigned research project
Escherichia coli constitutes one of the most important microbial fecal indicators in order to monitor water quality in a health related aspect. However, standard approaches need at least 24h hours for its detection; too long for many environmental applications. The measurement of the ekto-cellular beta-D-glucuronidase provides a potential alternative rapid method to estimate E.coli concentrations. The aim of this project is to evaluate automated beta-D-glucuronidase on-line measurements in spring- and surface water of low potential contamination for its practical use.
