Nanostructured Materials
18.04.2002 - 30.11.2006
Forschungsförderungsprojekt
It is very clear that the insatiable demand for new materials for emerging technologies, especially nanostructured materials, is driving materials synthesis, and materials chemistry plays a central role in this area. The Marie-Curie-Training Site "Nanostructured Materials" offers doctoral training in novel and innovative techniques for the preparation and characterisation of nanostructured materials. The following scientific approaches are used to obtain the nanostructured materials and represent different choices offered to the fellow: ¿ Synthesis of novel polymers which self-assemble into supramolecular aggregates such as micelles, vesicles and lyotropic phases, and their application in the controlled release of drugs and as templates for the tailoring of inorganic materials in nanometer-sized dimensions ¿ Chemical and physical approaches to nanoparticles such as vapour deposition or solution based techniques and their characterisation with respect to site-specific chemistry, physical properties and sensing behaviour ¿ Synthesis of nanoporous inorganic materials by templating with novel self-organizing organic polymers and a relation of the structural features of these materials with their potential for applications in chemical sensing devices as well as nanoreaction vessels Complimentary to the preparative aspects, special attention will be given to the characterisation of the obtained materials focussing on high resolution NMR techniques in the liquid, gel and solid state; transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction and scattering techniques.
