Mediafacade.net is a business and research network which develops high quality, integrative system solutions for media facades. The main goal is the integration of LEDs (Light Emmitting Diodes) in the facade of a building, either designed in aluminium, steel or glas, in order to create spectacular architectures of light. Many problems arise from the fact, that mediafacades are usually applied to buildings at the very or after the end of construction. The scope of the research project is to develop a system solution which eliminates these problems by giving architects an integrated solution in a very early stage of planning. To settle on the academic issues of the project, two diverse entities of the Vienna University of Technology, the Institute of Computertechnology and the Institute of Architectural Sciences, Department of Architecture Theory, cooperate. Besides preprocessing information for the architecture community and a publication of project-related documentation, major objectives for the collaboration are incoporating media and architectural conceptions and the definition of architectural, urbanistic and economic boundary conditions.
