Traditional quality control/ management methods (e.g. Six Sigma) utilize product- and process-data, in order to gain conclusions concerning product quality, which subsequently (after a data analysis) trigger a readjustment of the production process if a deviation from the specifications was detected. However, machine data and production planning and control data are not included by this approach. The concept of condition-based maintenance/TPM pursues the goal of identifying potential machine-errors to either avoid or control unplanned downtime, velocity losses or smaller output, as well as compromised quality in the production process. It strives to reduce the number of unplanned interruptions of production in favour of planned downtimes for maintenance. The condition-monitoring only signals a deviation from a predefined pattern, and allows a conclusion with respect to the cause for the interruption only if the necessary data-links are provided. Ideally, the coordination between production planning and control and maintenance planning and control is done by means of a resulting maintenance-strategy [4]. This coordination is currently being conducted unsatisfactorily due to missing systems for data correlation und thus a lack of information exchange.
