Molecular Mass Imaging
01.10.2009 - 31.03.2011
Globales Einzelvorhaben
This project is focusing on the analysis, characterization and functionalization of surfaces. Within this scope it is planned to use a highly automated instrumentation to get molecular mass information on surface located analytes helping e.g. to discriminate between different types of cell states or to better understand the interaction between synthetic polymers and body fluids. The generated molecular mass information can further be used to extract issue relevant data to gain 2-dimensional images of surface located analytes helping to visualize spatial distributions of interesting molecules (e.g. proteins on implants, cells on calcium fluoride crystals, microarray structure of engineered biomaterials) which can directly compared to optical/spectroscopical image data (FT-IR). Furthermore, for spatial control of cell adhesion and differentiation the proposed equipment will be used for the selective surface modification with bioactive molecules. Success or failure of the applied chemistry can again be monitored by generating molecular mass images.
