MEDUSA - DC Megacharger

01.05.2024 - 30.04.2027
Forschungsförderungsprojekt

The objectives of MEDUSA – DC-MEGACHARGER are clearly defined.

1.      Development and piloting of a megawatt fast charging station based on state of the art SiC technology (rectifier + DC-DC charger + frontend incl. cable, connector, cooling) based on an isolated DC-DC charger (to fulfil current standards) and a non-isolated DC-DC charger (optimized for upcoming standards)

2.      Megawatt charging should be demonstrated with a truck (i.e. from Designwerk or other) capable for megawatt charging and available battery technology (e.g. 800 V, 1 - 1.5 MW, 1 MWh). As 1250 V battery trucks are currently not available 1000 V+ charging will be demonstrated using AIT infrastructure.

3.      Development and demonstration of a next generation isolated DC-DC charger (to comply with current standards) based on novel SiC-MOSFET 2 kV technology and a non-isolated DC-DC charger (optimized for upcoming standards).

4.      High efficiency targets of at least 97% electrical efficiency per converter stage. If the efficiency target cannot be fulfilled, the origin of the efficiency limitation must be identified, and an optimization should be proposed at the end of the project. WHR is demonstrated for maximum usage of heat losses (high in absolute numbers).

5.      Better understanding and specification of environmental impact of megawatt fast charging stations based on Ecodesign principles, deriving product carbon footprint of relevant contributing components.
