LUNAR EXPLORATION ARCHITECTURE - Deployable Structures for Lunar Base

19.01.2006 - 31.01.2007
Forschungsförderungsprojekt
The purpose of the study LUNAR EXPLORATION ARCHITECTURE is to investigate bionic concepts applicable to deployable structures. The interdisciplinary team will find interpretations for possible implementation concepts. The study aims at finding innovative solutions for the use of materials, joints between structural elements and construction details for deploayble structures for a lunar base. W.P. ACTIVITY LISTING 1. Kick-Off meeting with partner university - presentation and discussion amongst all partners 2. Identification of the relevant bionic role-models Identification of space applications for Lunar infrastructure or habitats 3. Evaluation of the identified role models for technological applications, in this study for deployable structures - workshop with all partners. 4. Selection of role models 5. Research into a) the technical and engineering aspects of the possible structures b) the technology necessary for possible structures c) the geometry of the structure All these aspects should be researched in parallel and in an iterative circle - 6. Choose the most valuable concepts for exemplary structures with feed-back from the co-operation partners of the Centre for Biomimetics, Reading, GB - via Telecon and prepared PDF-data 7. Develop analogue architectural working models to test the mechanics of the structures 8. Evaluation of the architectural working models together with all partners 9. Refining of architectural working models and the examples chosen 10. Identification of the most probable structural models for implementation 11. Preliminary programmatic assessment of the system (development needs/demonstrators, schedule, preliminary cost assessment). 12. Schematic 2D and 3D drawings for the chosen structural models 13. Produce documentary videos of the architectural working models 14. Summarize findings in a report - Integration of all data
