LENNE (Landscape Education for a New Neighbourhood of Europe) - TEMPUS Programme Joint European Project
01.09.2005 - 31.12.2008
Forschungsförderungsprojekt
The LENNE Curriculum Development Project will develop the structure and modular content for a new two year Master Programme in Landscape Planning and Management and create a sustainable basis for its delivery. The new programme will be aimed in particular at responding to the needs of public administration in Serbia and Montenegro for the education of specialists able to support the introduction of and compliance with recent and forthcoming European environmental legislation, in particular the European Landscape Convention. In addition graduates of the new course will also be in an ideal position to make a significant contribution to the improvement of the quality of life of the people of the region on a broader basis. The planned Masters programme will, amongst other things, deal with a wide range of issues of economic sigificance for the regeneration of the region, including the integration of new infrastructure and development projects into the sensitive environment of the region, as well as building on the rich potential of its cultural landscapes for the development of sustainable tourism. The new programme will respond to the current shortcomings identified in the country¿s university education system within the discipline and meet the international requirements of the Bologna Process. The project consortium comprises a team of six universities from European Union countries (Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom) and two universities involving three faculties from Serbia and Montenegro (Belgrade - Faculties of Geography and Forestry and Novi Sad). Individual experts will provide advise and inputs from different viewpoints on a range of issues ranging from the structure and content of the proposed programme and its component parts to the integration of the experience of the European Union¿s ¿Tuning Project¿ and the ¿Bologna¿ criteria. The project will also be accompanied and monitored by a panel of representatives from ministries and public authorities in Serbia and Montenegro, as well as representatives of European and national professional institutions. The main outputs of the project will be the development of an overall structure for a Masters programme together will a detailed syllabus and package of teaching material for each of nine subject areas. The project will also involve the purchase of computing equipment and literature for the partner universities in order to be able to implement the new teaching programmes. The individual universities will select those components of the overall teaching material produced, which are most appropriate for the integration into their own degree programmes. Interest in the implementation of all or parts of the teaching material to be developed exists not just at the partner universities in Serbia and Montenegro, but also at the European Union members of the consortium. This long term commitment to the project, together with the fact that the project consortium contains the core of a strong regional network, provide a vital parts of the sustainability strategy for the project. Another key aspect of this is the development of an interactive database-driven project web site which will be used as a tool for the development and exchange of the teaching material for the duration of the project, but will continue to act as a focus for the consortium after it has finished. Meetings of the whole consortium, including repesentatives from the ministeries and public agencies, will take place in Serbia and Montenegro at the beginning and end of each project year in order to plan and monitor the progress of the project. Between these meetings of smaller subject area working groups will be hosted by European Union members of the consortium to undertake the work of developing the teaching material.
