K1MET Competence Center for Excellent Technologies in Advanced Metallurgical and Environmental Process Development Area4 Project6

01.07.2015 - 30.06.2019
Research funding project

Chemical and metallurgical plants are highly integrated processes, combining complex chemistry, various types of equipment with interconnected material streams to create goods and products for societies every days demand. As environmental regulations are getting stricter, operation costs more expensive and raw material supply and costs tend to change steadily, higher complexities were introduced in chemical plants to decrease production costs and reach environmental demands.

The increased usage of internal recycles, alternative raw materials and new types of equipment made it more difficult for engineering companies as well as plant operators to come to robust mathematical predictions on plant behaviour by standard calculations.

Goal of the project is the implementation of a model library in the simulation environment gPROMS being able to balance iron reduction processes (Corec, Finex, blast furnace, sinter, etc.). Main objective of the project is the development of unit operation models as well as the extension of existing models with kinetic and thermodynamic routines
