Investigation of the relationship between ERS scatterometer derived superficial SM (H-SAF) and both LSA-SAF SMET and ECMWF upper layer SM

01.06.2008 - 31.12.2009
Assigned research project
Evapotranspiration is the sum of evaporation and plant transpiration from the earth's land surface to atmosphere. It depends on atmospheric conditions (atmospheric water content, temperature, wind) and the availability of water in the soil. The objective of the project is to study the feasibility of using soil moisture data retrieved from ERS scatterometer observations for estimating evapotranspiration on a European scale. The project is cooperation between the Satellite Application Facility in Support of Operational Hydrology and Water Management (H-SAF) and the Land Surface Analysis Satellite Applications Facility (LSA SAF).
