Improvement of Vehicular Communication Links
24.05.2007 - 30.06.2010
Globales Einzelvorhaben
Our first aim is to develop protocol enhancements to push the system implementation for IEEE 802.11p. We wish to evaluate these protocol enhancements by measurement campaigns in real-world scenarios with only a short delay between development and evaluation, see Section 2.2. It is important to test the protocols in real-world scenarios because the test cases need to be relevant. The medium access control (MAC) protocol for car2X communications is important because it handles packet collisions, congestion situations, and the routing of packets. In car2X communications, the MAC-protocol is difficult to analyze due to the high mobility and speed of the network nodes (cars). The main challenge is the short lifetime of the radio links and the resulting dynamics of the network topology. Furthermore, car2X MAC-protocols need to satisfy stringent delay requirements which are demanded by applications for enhancing the traffic safety. In spite of the recent academic and industrial research effort in the field of car2X communication networks, the proposed solutions suffer from serious limits in real-world scenarios (high mobility is a real challenge). Reliable and economically feasible solutions are not yet known for guaranteeing truly efficient and collision-free transmission.
