TUSI: The intelligent railway-tunnel
01.09.2004 - 31.12.2006
Forschungsförderungsprojekt
Safety in railway traffic is valuable. The term safety is determined by subjective perception. The commitment and responsibility of an operator of infrastructure is to apply or make available the respective state of the art in the field measures increasing safety. Due to the reorganization of the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) and the required reduction of the personnel costs also by cuts in staff numbers automation and rationalization increasingly gain in importance. The automatic supervision of the train condition and integration into existing and future railway securing systems is the central focus of this project. Data on the train condition before and in the tunnel are to be registered and fed into the railway securing systems. Thus accidents and damages caused by derailment before and in the tunnel are to be avoided. In the case of an accident the entrance of a further train into the tunnel is to be prevented, escape routes are to be indicated, the traffic in the neighbouring road tunnel is to be stopped and safety personnel and the managing authority is to be informed. Furthermore the fire smoke ventilation is to be controlled depending on the access direction and the movement of the task forces. Aim of the project is the installation of a pilot and demonstration facility at the Arlberg Tunnel. This is particularly well suited for this purpose due to the parallel running road tunnel, the control of the road traffic in the case of catastrophes is included in the project. The facility to be developed is integrated into the existing safety systems in the railway traffic. The future centralization of the management in the railway traffic and the establishment of a management centre for Western Austria in Innsbruck connected with it favour the implementation of the project. The research project is in close connection with the project ¿Checkpoint: Branderkennung und Entgleisungsdetektion¿(Checkpoint: Fire and Derailment Detection ), which was submitted under the same item.
