ICEDFUN - Iron catalyzed direct functionalization of C-H bonds
The present proposal aims at the development of iron catalyzed direct functionalization of
diarylmethylenes assisted via a directing group (DG). The directing group is required to bring the
catalyst in proximity of the C-H bond to be broken.
The overall process is very challenging owing to two main reasons:
1.) C-H insertion of iron catalysts is relatively unexplored since it is rather difficult to achieve
2.) Especially insertion into C(sp3)-H bonds is challenging (related cross-dehydrogenative
coupling reactions likely proceed through radical mechanisms and not through Fe C-H
 insertion)
