Hydrological downscaling of soil moisture - HSAF

01.04.2008 - 31.12.2009
Assigned research project
The aim of the proposed activity is to develop a downscaling method for the METOP Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT) soil moisture data that allows inferring spatial patterns of soil moisture at a scale of a few square kilometres from the original scale of ten thousand square kilometres, based on hydrological concepts. The downscaling method is to be tested against independent ENVISAT Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (ASAR) soil moisture data to assess the added value of the downscaling method over simply using the original (coarse resolution) scatterometer data in hydrological applications.
