Basics for further developing the education in the field of barrier free mobility at universities and universities of applied science
01.03.2010 - 31.12.2011
Assigned research project
The mobility of the future is a field which experiences a lot of changes. The social, ecological and economic setting of mobility as well as mobility itself and transportation technologies run through several variances. Nowadays the term barrier-free plays a more important role. It contains physical, psychological, social and economic aspects of barriers and is a guiding theme for the mobility of the future. This comprehensive definition of barrier-free implies the integration of several disciplines in interdisciplinary research- and development approaches. Integration is a mega trend in mobility and passenger transportation. It takes place within different modes of travel, in technical, organisational and financial measures, or within research, development, production, business and marketing. The trend of integration has to be considered in an appropriate education system. Important is the interdisciplinary approach as well as using the suitable didactical methods. Students have to learn self-monitoring competences, to allow a process oriented use of different competence bundles. The study is a contribution, in preparing the Austrian education system for the challenges of the future and securing Austria a leading position in the field of education. The study pursues following sub goals: (1) evaluation of the current relevant mobility education system in Austria, (2) the development of a specification of requirements based on the challenges for the mobility of the future, (2) identification and validation of several measures concerning their cost-effectiveness ratio, (4) design of one /or more measure concepts, with combined and concrete realization steps. The analysis takes place in several working steps. In the evaluation of the current education system we want to focus on the contents, the didactic methods used and the organisational- and institutional setting within the Austrian education system. In the process of the specification of requirements for future education the involvement of the stakeholder plays a key role. Their knowledge, conceptions and expectations will be surveyed in individual interviews and work-shops. Again the questions of content, didactic methods and organisation will be accounted for. An international comparison shall evaluate the position of Austria and allows consideration of best practice examples for future education measures and concepts. With all the collected information as a base, measures are deducted and evaluated with heuristic methods. A combination of single measures for forming a concept shall enable to utilize synergies for designing an implementation strategy and securing the goal orientation of the study results.
