Freiraum und Mikroklima: Grundlagen für Klima-sensitive Planung in Aspern
01.07.2010 - 30.06.2011
Assigned research project
The goal of the project is to derive planning- and design guidelines for the development of climate-aware and energy efficient city planning and to support the implementation of such planning principles by the elaboration of a design framework and a implementation guidelines. For this purpose, result will be elaborated in the following steps: The initial point of the planned work is the determination of the macroclimatic preconditions: local model simulations will be carried out with two regional climate models. For the development of the models for the subsequent simulations and their plausibility check, the effects of the urban open space on the microclimate must be known. For this purpose, the fundamental interactions between urban open space will be determined. Moreover characteristic materials will be investigated regarding their microclimatic effects and their related properties will be quantified in order to support the transformation functions and the simulations of the reference spaces. In order to study representative cases, the definition of reference spaces will identify appropriate combinations of building geometry, surface properties, park areas and the specific building construction. As the quantitative investigations on the energy efficiency of buildings are usually based on standardised weather data (e.g. test reference year files) which are derived from weather stations, an effective and scalable way for the transformation of macroclimatic conditions on the local level is needed. The project will develop and test such functions which will allow the derivation of the building-relevant microclimatic parameters from the standardised weather station data. The modelling of the reference spaces will use the transfer functions and simulation tools in order to compare the reference spaces according to (i) Building energy Demand (ii) indoor thermal conditions and (iii) outdoor amenity values and elaborate a relative ranking among the investigated options. In order to give an application perspective to the extent possible, the identified relations between the design of the overall city surface (urban open space & building) on one hand and the building efficiency and the amenity values on the other will be summarised in a proposals for measures, which shall be available for a timely communication to the teams of the housing-development competitions and the urban open space planners.
