The modularisation of rail-bound vehicles should be conducted in compliance with the European MODTRAIN R&D project which is being conducted as part of the Sixth EU Framework Programme. This pursues the tasks and objectives of the ERRAC Strategic Rail Research Agenda 2003 and the Technical Standards for Interoperability (TSIs). Based on the modularisation idea, which is incorporated and pursued in the EU MODTRAIN project, concrete recommendations will be derived for the Siemens Transport Systems division and subsequently a module will be developed in detail for an application (e.g. an underground rail vehicle).
