Forschungsförderungsprojekt
The purpose of the scientific research is the development and the adaptation of methods from computer graphics and especially of 3D volume visualization. The goal of the project is a software prototype for the daily clinical routine in radiological settings. The main focus of the software will be computer assisted diagnosis, analysis and planning. A considerable improvement in the area of volume visualisation and data aquisition was achieved during the last years. This project will take advantage of the high computational power of todays PC Workstations and highly sophisticated algorithms in order to improve diagnosis. Research topics include computer aided diagnosis, visualization of deduced information from data analysis, reliability issues of medical data visualization, automatic and user steered segmentation. Specific sub-topics include: - Flexible Direct Multi-Volume Rendering - Importance-Driven Volume Rendering - Memory Efficient Acceleration Structures and Techniques for CPU-based Volume Raycasting of Large Data - VOTS: VOlume doTS as a Point-Based Representation of Volumetric Data - Parallel Peeling of Curvilinear Grids - GPU-based Frequency Domain Volume Rendering - A Refined Data Addressing and Processing Scheme to Accelerate Volume Raycasting - Semi-Automatic Topology Independent Contour-Based 2 1/2 D Segmentation Using Live-Wire - Hardware-Based Nonlinear Filtering and Segmentation using High-Level Shading Languages - Advanced Curved Planar Reformation: Flattening of Vascular Structures - Smooth Shape-Based Interpolation using the Conjugate Gradient Method - Christmas Tree Case Study: Computed Tomography as a Tool for Mastering Complex Real World Objects with Applications in Computer Graphics - CPR - Curved Planar Reformation - Feature-Preserving Volume Filtering - Exploiting the Hessian Matrix for Content-Based Retrieval of Volume-Data Features
