Evaluation of Teriparatide Effects on Bone Strength Assessed by High-Resolution Computed Tomography Based Finite-Element-Analysis

The limitations of DXA in assessing treatment effects in osteoporosis are well established. Bone strength is affected not only by bone mass but also by bone quality. For vertebral bone strength the integrity of the internal trabecular network represents one key factor of bone quality. We propose to develop finite element (FE) models based on high resolution computed tomography data to assess bone strength in vivo.
