Development of Academic Program on Energy System Planning and Analysis
17.07.2011 - 17.07.2014
Education and academia management project
The modern scenario of energy use in Nepal does not reflect much development. The most common source of energy is fuel wood, used by women for cooking. All petroleum products used in the transportation industry are imported and domestic electricity generation is not enough to meet consumer demand. In this scenario, one thing missing is skilled human resources capable of analyzing, understanding, and creating countermeasures for existing problems. Students who wish to pursue higher education in energy planning and analysis must take part in other programs which have small components on the subject. There is currently no program targeted to their needs. Additionally, for solving high level problems concerning national energy planning, there is no organized group of researchers that has been formed in an academic setting. This subsequent proposal to appear seeks to remedy both of these situations. Its high chances of success and sustainability can be seen in previously undertaken programs of a similar nature in other subject areas, such as renewable energy. With support for this proposal, work can begin to build local capacity in terms of students and their education, and also researchers and their analysis and recommendations to policy makers. This is the first step in creating a Nepal that has a more developed energy scenario. A scenario which supplies enough energy to consumers while helping ensure national stability and prosperity.
