Energy Foresight Network

Forschungsförderungsprojekt
EFONET aims at assessing the contribution that current knowledge on energy foresight methods and on their practical application can provide to energy policy making, specifically in the framework of the transition towards a sustainable and low carbon energy system. Accordingly, five thematic priorities have been identified, also based on the above mentioned informal survey conducted in the early EFONET stages: 1. Methodological approaches to energy foresight 2. End use energy efficiency strategies 3. Foresight in the transport and mobility sector 4. Energy technology integration and scenarios 5. Acceptability and development conditions of (new and more efficient) energy technologies. For each such thematic priority, a focussed debate will be organised, primarily based on a series of dedicated workshops. The common goal will be to provide inputs that can be directly used by the EC in the formulation, review and evaluation of European energy policies, specifically (but not exclusively) in the three strategic areas related to (i) the SET (Strategic Energy Technology plan), (ii) the Review of the EU Energy Strategy, and (iii) the implementation of the Action Plan for Energy Efficiency. In addition, EFONET will review the state of the art of energy foresight across the EU and prepare a series of summary reports illustrating the main approaches, current practice and lessons learned from the experience accrued in Member States in applying energy foresight methods and tools (e.g. within country scenario analysis).
