Development of a mobile, multi purpose heat release calorimeter (MMPHRC) based on the Oxygen Consumption Method

Eigenprojekt
The harmonisation in Europe in construction of buildings has led to new standards, tests and classification of building products in fire safety. The standard tests are well known and established but still have their limits for certain questions in fire science, fire safety and fire risk assessment. A popular request in the fire safety community is a flexible and mobile test apparatus to require data and information of free burning fires besides the outputs of the standard fires in laboratory tests. The aim of this project is the development of a flexible, mobile and multi purpose calorimeter (MMPHRC) for the measurement of heat release rates from free burning fires. It should be possible to transport the calorimeter to any test site. It should be also possible to integrate the calorimeter in any type of fire test (i.e. test on facades) or for the measurement of heat release rates from fires of large (i.e. railway cars, Heavy goods vehicles) or immovable objects.
