Design of a machining center based on a parallel kinematics and a degree of parallelity of 2
01.04.2007 - 31.12.2011
Proprietary project
Machine tool structures presented up until today are characterized by a degree of parallelism less than one (serial or hybrid kinematic structures) or a degree of parallelism equal to one (fully parallel structures such as tripods or hexapods). The aim of this project is to develop a highly parallel kinematic structure preferably used in machining centers based on redundant kinematic linkages. For movement in two dimensions this concept provides for a symmetrical duplication of the kinematic links in the shape of two con-rod mechanisms so as to form a statically redundant kinematic structure (double scissor structure). A third axis of movement may preferably be added on the workpiece side or at the moveable platform in serial layout.
