Design Concept for the Municipality of Sollenau ¿ Alleegasse
11.11.2005 - 18.05.2006
Assigned research project
In the municipality of Sollenau, Lower Austria, changed framework conditions (traffic, new development, land use) have led to excessive modification of the streetscapes, resulting in shapelessness and loss of identity in many areas. The local authority therefore intends to carry out a study of its entire street network to determine its spatial qualities and the current state of the built environment. The research project foresees a detailed inventory and analysis of the streetscapes, which will form the basis for a proposed classification system for different street types. An evaluation system will then be developed to allow a working group of local residents to characterise and classify the individual streets under the defined street types. Following a joint workshop with representatives of the local authority to review and modify the classifications it will be possible to prioritise the proposed redevelopment and design measures.
