DACH-project "Utilization period of open graded asphalt surface courses"

11.09.2006 - 31.07.2008
Assigned research project
The use of porous asphalt surface courses is particularly motivated by their large contribution to decrease road traffic noise apart from their drainage effect. Experiences in Austria, Germany and Switzerland did not only show the positive effects of this asphalt construction method, but also many negative effects, for instance their behaviour in winter times (modified winter maintenance, increased salt consumption, icing effect, ..) as well as their worse long-term behaviour compared with conventional surface courses. Within this project the utilization period of porous asphalt surface courses is particularly the center of attention. By the term "utilization period" both the structural and the functional lifetime is ment i.e. the lastingness of the noise-reducing effect and the drainage effect.
