Context Driven Exploration of the Internet of Things

01.12.2012 - 31.01.2014
Research funding project

Since social media has connected millions of people, the meaningful involvement of real objects in the global network is the next challenge for the Internet (Internet of Things). Although the necessary technology has been available for some time, from the users' point of view, there are few compelling applications. An application area with great potential is the shopping context, where this technology can be a bridge between traditional stores and online services. In the project CODE-IT, we investigate possible applications through exploratory studies with users regarding their usefulness and acceptance. Possible scenarios include  persuasive and personalized shopping assistance (eg healthy nutrition) or a longer-term analysis of shopping habits. Based on these results, we will design a smartphone app and test it with users in real-world settings.
