Continuing Engineering Education as Work Based Learning

01.10.2003 - 30.09.2005
Forschungsförderungsprojekt
On the background of a research-based university-industry co-operation, this project will develop models and methods for the establishment of Work Based Learning (WBL). This includes development of a new methodology for the identification and the description of the needs of competence improvement among engineers and technicians within the Electronic and IT business. Tools for continuous maintenance and improvement of professional competences among employees in a given enterprise will be developed, and the project will contribute with research concerning pedagogical and didactic methods for facilitation of the continuing learning process at university level in the industry. This research will include the development of tools for knowledge transfer from universities based on an ongoing identification of future competence needs from enterprises. It will also include the development of a process involving the interrelations between Tacit and Explicit Knowledge and Advanced Knowledge Skills. Test studies will be carried out in 4 different European countries with different spheres of focus, and the WBL-management practices will be elaborated further. Finally, as a major issue in the dissemination phases a book on Work Based Learning will be published.
