Optimisation of polymer-coatings of lead-pipes to reduce the entry of lead into tap water
16.11.2009 - 30.06.2010
Research funding project
In the context of this project, laboratory experiments will be performed to investigate the effect of coatings of conventional lead-pipes on the reduction of pipe induced lead-uptake of tap water. The goal is to determine the dependence of lead-insertion on time of residence in the pipe, temperature and composition of tap water. By means of uncoated lead-pipes the uptake under standard conditions should be analyzed while tests on the insertion dependence on different experiment parameters with coated pipes should be carried out. The applicability of the coating for reduction of the lead-insertion from lead-pipes in tap waters and the coating procedure (e.g. adjustment of required coating thickness) should be improved on the basis of the results to continuously enhance the water quality.
