Estimating the snow water equivalent in the catchments of Rax, Schneeberg and Hochschwab (KATER II)

01.10.2003 - 30.06.2008
Auftragsforschungsprojekt
Estimating the snow water equivalent in the catchments of Rax, Schneeberg and Hochschwab The Water Supply Department of the Vienna City Council operates a number of water supply catchments in the Rax, Schneeberg and Hochschwab regions where the springs are fed by snow melt water during a substantial part of the year. To better understand and ultimately predict the space-time patterns of snow water equivalent and melt water, the Water Supply Department initiated a research initiative. A spatially distributed, dynamic snow model is set up for the study region and tested against snow cover patterns derived from satellite data. Additionally, telemetered video cameras are installed at a number of sites to monitor the snow cover patterns and snow depths. This project is part of the Kater II project of Interreg II.
