The main goal of the project IMBENA is to further develop the existing software tool (SEDENA) for the evaluation of landfill aftercare, in particular with respect to leachate emission modeling based on process-oriented monitoring data. Extended monitoring strategies are implemented at three closed municipal solid waste landfills to create an appropriate data basis for model calibration and to serve as best-practice examples for monitoring during the aftercare period. The findings of the study will contribute to more robust site-specific evaluations of aftercare measures and facilitate the development of monitoring protocols for documenting compliance with environmental quality standards at closed landfills.
